| Tips- Keep large furniture pieces a neutral color and use pillows and other small decorative accessories to add that punch of color.
- Pay special attention to the first spot you see when you enter a room and arrange a vignette there to give the eye something attractive to land on every day.
- Transform a room in the least expensive and most powerful way. With paint!
- Accessorize in odd numbers (1, 3, or 5) for vignettes that are more eye pleasing.
- Group collections together to create an impact. They take on more importance than when scattered throughout the home.
- Add dimmers to lights to dramatically change the way a room looks and feels. They are easy to install and very inexpensive.
- Purchase a few expensive accessories and group them with several relatively inexpensive ones. You will be amazed that the overall look is very "high-end".
- Hang mirrors where they will reflect a beautiful view or piece of art. One of biggest decorating mistakes made is to place a mirror over the fireplace where it reflects the ceiling fan or just the ceiling!
- Mix several patterns in a room to create interest. Make sure the patterns have different scales so they do not "compete" with eachother.
- Create a dramatic bed with pillows! Use 26" shams against the headboard or wall. Add standard shams in front of those and finish with small throw pillows and neckrolls. Make sure the group of pillows has color and/or pattern variation as well.
